UCI’s Rose, Weichsel Advance in Ojai Tennis

Kathy Rose and Courtney Weichsel of UC Irvine advanced to the third round of the independent women’s division of the Ojai tennis tournament Thursday at Ojai.

Rose defeated Cindy Huzeler of Cal State San Bernardino, 6-1, 7-6, and Kaliko Yandall of Cal State Northridge, 6-1, 6-2. Weichsel defeated Michelle Dobec of Chapman, 6-0, 6-0, and Amy Lansford of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 6-0, 6-2.

Rose and Weichsel also advanced in doubles play, defeating Huzeler and Carol Comade, 6-0, 7-5.

In the intercollegiate invitational, Haruko Shigekawa of Irvine defeated Julie Kidwell of UC Riverside, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round, but lost to Janice Lum of USC, 7-5, 7-2. Stacy Cadigan of Irvine lost her first-round match against Frankie Heron, 6-2, 6-2. The Anteaters’ Karan Bering, who had a bye in the first round, lost to Allison Wilson of Stanford, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round.
