Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Schoolpower 10K Race Expected to Draw 3,000
More than 3,000 runners from all over California are expected Sunday at the seventh annual Schoolpower Laguna Beach 10-Kilometer Classic race.
The event is sponsored by Schoolpower, the private fund-raising arm for the Laguna Beach Unified School District.
Gay Pivaroff, a spokeswoman for Schoolpower, said the organization expects to net about $30,000 for the city’s schools this year from the race events Sunday.
In addition to the 10K, the Laguna Beach Classic also features a 2-kilometer “fun run.” The 10K starts at 8 a.m. and the 2K at 8:05 a.m. Both races begin in front of the Festival of Arts grounds on Laguna Canyon Road.
Late registration Sunday begins at 6 a.m. Entry fees are $15 for the 10K and $13 for the 2K.
Pivaroff said that after the races, a pancake breakfast will be held on the festival grounds, with tickets costing $3.50.
