A man died in a jail cell at Los Angeles International Airport minutes after he struggled with police officers who approached to investigate suspicious behavior, authorities said Monday.
Department of Airports Police officers saw the unidentified man in a parking lot at 5 p.m. Sunday but lost sight of him until just before 9 p.m., when he was seen at a baggage area, Lt. William Hall said.
The man, who had no identification and was not identified, pushed an officer who approached him and struggled with others who arrived to help, Hall said.
The man behaved violently in the cell, but officers noticed about 9:15 p.m. that he had stopped moving, Hall said. Paramedics were called and he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was under investigation.
