Small Earthquake Jiggles North County Area

Share

A small earthquake shook northern San Diego County Tuesday evening, but no injuries or damage were reported, authorities said.

The temblor, which measured 3.1 on the Richter scale, occurred about 7:18 p.m. and was centered 6 miles west-northwest of Palomar Mountain, said Robert Finn, spokesman for Caltech in Pasadena.

The quake was not an aftershock to any of the recent temblors that have struck Southern California, he added.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department received three or four phone calls from people who had felt the quake.

A quake with a magnitude of 3.5 can cause slight, localized damage, Finn said.
