‘Prophet’ to Face Firing Squad
A judge today ordered self-proclaimed prophet Ronald Lafferty to be executed by a firing squad June 24 for the throat-slashing murders of his sister-in-law and her infant daughter.
Fourth District Judge Boyd Park gave Lafferty a choice of death by lethal injection or firing squad. The defiant Lafferty refused to pick a method of execution during the 10-minute hearing, telling the judge, “It’s all your game, sir.” Park then ordered him to die by firing squad. The Utah Supreme Court in January upheld Lafferty’s first-degree murder convictions for the July 24, 1984, murders of 24-year-old Brenda Wright Lafferty and her 15-month-old daughter, Erica.
