Dave Henderson led off the bottom of the 14th inning with his sixth home run of the season, and the Oakland Athletics won their sixth straight game Monday night, beating the New York Yankees, 3-2.

Henderson connected off Steve Shields (0-2), who had pitched three perfect innings. Oakland relief ace Dennis Eckersley (1-1) the A’s fifth pitcher, went two innings for the victory.

The Athletics tied the game, 2-2, in the eighth with a run off reliever Dave Righetti. Jose Canseco singled with one out and scored when Dave Parker’s single to left-center bounced off left fielder Rickey Henderson’s glove for an error. Canseco, who was running on the pitch, scored easily.

Oakland starter Bob Welch pitched nine innings. He gave up 11 hits but only two runs.

Dave Winfield gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer in the fifth. It was his 12th of the season, tying him with Canseco and Minnesota’s Kent Hrbek for the American League lead.

The third straight sellout crowd of 44,218--the first time the A’s have ever sold out three straight regular-season games--saw Yankee Manager Billy Martin ejected in the third inning after arguing a call by umpire Dale Scott. Martin was ejected after kicking and throwing dirt on Scott.
