Kosher Slaughter

Share

Jack Ray made an interesting suggestion in his letter that all kosher restaurant reviews should be accompanied by a detailed description of the horrors of kosher slaughter in order that the general readership be informed.

But why limit such information only to kosher practices? All restaurant reviews could be accompanied with the applicable slaughter information, for the sake of the general readership.

I can only assume that Ray can go to his local steak house with a clear conscience secure in the knowledge that the steer he is about to consume died “humanely” by being beaten to death on the head with an electric jackhammer.

This “modern” method seems, to me, no less cruel than the cutting of the throat, a method that has been in continuous use by civilized peoples (including the Jewish people) for thousands of years.

Slaughter is slaughter, Mr. Ray, and the rituals surrounding it, whether religious or corporate, is calling a rose by any other name.
