Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Transient Held After Man Stabbed in Bar
A barroom argument resulted in the stabbing of a 29-year-old man by a transient with a small knife, police said Tuesday.
William Duffy Kruger of Laguna Beach, who was stabbed twice in the abdomen during the Monday night dispute, was in stable condition at Mission Community Trauma Center, Laguna Beach Police Detective Lance Ishmael said.
Robert Wanamaker, 36, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was being held at Orange County Jail on $250,000 bail, Ishmael said.
According to Ishmael, the suspect and victim were sitting beside each other and drinking at Mickey’s Tavern in the 500 block of South Coast Highway at about 8 p.m. Monday night when they began arguing.
Wanamaker allegedly threatened Kruger, then Kruger pushed Wanamaker from a bar stool, Ishmael said. Wanamaker then drew a 4-inch knife and stabbed Kruger twice before other bar patrons came to the wounded man’s aid, Ishmael said.
