Local News in Brief : $1 Ferry Fare Increase Requested
Catalina Channel Express has requested a fare increase from the California Public Utilities Commission.
The ferry company carries passengers from San Pedro to Avalon and two harbors on Catalina Island.
The requested increase from $12.50 to $13.50 one-way is the first since 1981 and would generate more than $450,000 annually. The Avalon City Council voted unanimously to take no action on the application, which will now proceed to the commission.
