Illinois champion Luis Lomeli scored a unanimous 10-round decision over top-ranked WBA contender Johnny Duplessis in a battle of unbeaten lightweights at Villa Park, Ill.
In a 10-round junior-welterweight bout at the Odeum in suburban Chicago, unbeaten Meldrick Taylor, an Olympic gold medalist, easily outpointed Martin Quiroz of San Jose.
Taylor, ranked second by the WBA, had been scheduled to meet Edwin Curet, but Curet bowed out because of a previous commitment.
Taylor (19-0) took the fight to Quiroz, scoring often with powerful left jabs, but never really hurt the California fighter. Quiroz is 31-16-5.
