7 Seahawks Honored, 2 Make All-State Baseball Team

Seven Harbor College baseball players have received postseason honors, topped by the selection of sophomore infielder Wil Parsons and freshman pitcher Dan Parente to the community college all-state team.

Those two were also named to the All-Southern California Athletic Conference team, along with teammates Bill Keep, an outfielder; catcher Jon Berger, pitcher Eddie Lopez, third baseman Sal Curiel and outfielder Eddie Luna, all sophomores. The Seahawks won the SCAC championship and advanced to the state playoffs, finishing with a 30-16 record.

Parsons and Parente, El Segundo High School graduates, were also named to the All-Southern California first team. Keep was named to the second team.

Parsons, who batted .337, set nine Harbor records including most stolen bases in a career (87) and season (54) and most walks in a career (76) and season (47). He also played in the most career games, 91, had the most at-bats, 342, hit the most sacrifice flies, 9, and set season records this year by reaching base 115 times and being hit by 11 pitches. Parsons will continue his career at the University of Illinois.

Parente, recently drafted by the Montreal Expos, batted .346 with 17 extra-base hits as a first baseman and was 2-1 on the mound.

Keep, of Culver City, hit .377 overall and .418 in conference games. Berger, out of Palos Verdes High, led the team with a .381 average. Curiel hit .327 and Luna batted .306. Both are Paramount natives. Lopez, from Banning High, was 7-2 with a 3.47 earned-run average and 98 strikeouts in 107 innings.
