Los Angeles Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner’s tough policy on minor drug sellers has apparently failed at Compton Superior Court. Most judges mete out the 180-day sentences asked by Reiner. But Compton Judge Arthur Jean gives lesser sentences in order to clear the court for serious cases. Reiner’s office has refused to send minor cases to Jean. Judge Nancy Brown has begun taking them and settling them with 90 days sentences.
