Schwartz Leads Wire to Wire in Speedway

Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa won the four-lap scratch main event Friday in front of 3,133 spectators in the weekly speedway program at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Schwartz was a wire-to-wire winner in a restart just ahead of Alan Christian of Huntington Beach.

Schwartz and Lance King of Van Nuys tangled in turn three of the first race and both fell, forcing the race to be restarted. Christian was second, Steve Lucero of Riverside third and King fourth in the restart.

King won the eight-lap handicap main event earlier. Shawn McConnell of Brea was second, Brad Oxley of San Clemente third, Bart Bast of Auburn fourth, Lucero fifth and Steve Russell of Anaheim sixth.

Wayne Manchester of Rancho Cucamonga won the five-lap second division race, and Bobby Cody of Dana Point won the four-lap third-division race. It was the second week in a row that Cody won the third-division race.
