Local News in Brief : Prostitution Arrests
A police task force arrested 85 people over the weekend in an effort to control prostitution in South Central Los Angeles, officials said Monday.
The 42-member task force split into three units, with one arresting men who solicited officers posing as prostitutes and the other two arresting prostitutes, Capt. Myron Wasson said.
Thirty-nine women were arrested on suspicion of prostitution, 40 men for solicitation, one person for pandering and five others for such felonies as the illegal possession of a handgun and drug possession, Wasson said.
The task force operated from about 6 p.m. Friday until about 4 a.m. Saturday and then returned for the same period Saturday to Sunday.
