Big Catfish Caught at Lake Piru

Share

Though catfish are a common catch at Los Angeles County’s Lake Piru, most of the fish aren’t worth mentioning when compared to the bigger ones caught regularly at other Southland reservoirs.

Sylmar resident Stella Laurence’s recent catch, however, is an exception. While fishing the Ski Cove area, where most of the fish have been running 2 to 5 pounds, Laurence managed to bring up a 31 1/2-pounder, the biggest fish caught at the lake since it reopened in 1978. Her catch was shy of the lake-record 34-pounder caught in the early 1970s.
