A tanker truck involved in a four-vehicle collision in Baldwin Park overturned and spilled more than 1,000 gallons of latex onto the San Bernardino Freeway at the start of rush hour Friday morning, forcing the closure of the entire roadway, authorities said.

A little while later, a truck dropped 74,000 pounds of wallboard on the Pasadena Freeway, blocking the northbound lanes.

Three people suffered moderate injuries in the San Bernardino Freeway collision, including the driver of the truck, which was carrying 3,000 gallons of latex, a milky liquid that was to be used to produce paints, California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Badilla said.

About half of the truck’s load, being transported from United Pumping-General Latex and Latex Corp. in Rancho Cucamonga, spilled onto traffic lanes, Badilla said.

The white rubbery substance spilled across all westbound lanes leading into downtown Los Angeles and then began oozing onto the eastbound lanes. The CHP closed the freeway near Baldwin Park Boulevard shortly after 7 a.m., Badilla said.
