Passem Dirty Favored in Dash for Cash Despite Jockey Change
Passem Dirty, the fastest qualifier but a filly whose most recent jockey is riding another horse, is a 3-1 favorite tonight in the $124,000 Dash for Cash Derby for quarter horses at Los Alamitos.
Although Danny Cardoza rode Passem Dirty to a 21.62-second clocking in the 440-yard Derby trials last week, he has chosen to ride Doctor Ro tonight, so the favorite will be handled by James Brooks.
Doctor Ro, who has been ridden only by Cardoza in a four-race career that includes three wins, was the fourth-fastest qualifier and is 4-1 on the morning line. Cardoza won the Derby in 1986 with Gold Coast Express.
Here is the Derby field, in post-position order with jockey and odds:
Dashing Val, Ken Hart, 4-1; Queen Dream, Ralph Pauline, 4-1; Bedinette, Lute Proctor, 10-1; Doctor Ro, Cardoza, 4-1; Bonsai Billy, Steve Treasure, 8-1; Dashes Gold Digger, John Craeger, 8-1; Easygo Effort, Henry Garcia, 7-2; Timefor Windis Jet, Jerry Nicodemus, 30-1; Passem Dirty, James Brooks, 3-1, and Cash Legacy, James Lackey, 20-1.
