“Chinatown,” director Roman Polanski’s water noir set in ‘30s Los Angeles, was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 1974, with Robert Towne winning for Best Original Screenplay.

But the videotape version suffers the unkindest cut in the new Paramount Special Collectors Series edition. The sleeve displays this credit: “Written by Robert Polanski.” With no director credit at all!

Spokespeople for Paramount Home Video concede the error is “Oops, a major one,” and tell us the goof has been corrected.
