1 Killed, 1 Injured Crossing Street
A 19-year-old Glendale man was killed and his female companion seriously injured early Saturday when they were struck by a car as they crossed a street on Balboa Peninsula, Newport Beach police said.
Lt. Tim Riley said Paul J. Boutin was pronounced dead on arrival at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian shortly after the accident at 1:21 a.m. He died of head injuries, Riley said.
Laura H. Rogers, 19, also of Glendale, was taken to Fountain Valley Memorial Hospital and Trauma Center, where she was listed in serious condition with head injuries and a broken pelvis.
Riley said they were struck by a car driven by Peter Vasilia of Newport Beach as they attempted to cross West Balboa Boulevard at 18th Street.
The police spokesman said no charges have been filed against Vasilia. Riley said there was no traffic or stop signal at the intersection where Boutin and Rogers were struck.
