Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Man, 22, Dies From Bullet Wound to Head

A 22-year-old man, who was shot in the head Saturday while sitting on the tailgate of a truck, died Monday morning, police said.

Police said Monday that they were still looking for suspects in the shooting, which occurred at 12:30 p.m. Saturday after two men drove up to a home on the 300 block of South Newhope Street and fired shots at three men sitting on the tailgate of a truck.

“We don’t know if they knew each other, but we’ve established that it’s not gang-related,” police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said Monday.

Ahn Hung Tran of Santa Ana died at 4:20 a.m. Monday morning at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center.

Police said Tran and two friends were sitting at the back of the truck, which was parked in the driveway of the house, when two men, described as Vietnamese in their 20s, drove up in a white compact car. The passenger stepped out of the car and fired two shots, one of them hitting Tran in the head.
