A professional high-diver attempting a flying-reverse somersault from a 50-foot platform at Sea World on Wednesday landed on his side in the water and was hospitalized, park officials said.

The diver, Carl Yett, 26, was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was in good condition, a spokeswoman said late Wednesday. It was feared the impact might have broken Yett’s ribs, but the spokeswoman said he had no broken bones.

The mishap occurred during the 10:30 a.m. performance of the Maxwell High Dive Team, which is under contract with Sea World to provide divers for shows in the park’s lagoon area, according to Dan LeBlanc, Sea World spokesman.

Part of the Sea World high-dive show includes a comedy routine, but LeBlanc said Yett was hurt while performing a “straight” dive during part of the program devoted to illustrating Olympic-style dives.

Yett was able to get himself out of the water without help, and the rest of the program went on as scheduled, said LeBlanc.

Last Friday, a high-wire performer in the “City Streets” show fell from about 8 feet and was taken to the hospital for examination and released. Sea World has since dropped the high-wire act from the program.
