Ivan Lendl will remain the top-ranked men’s tennis player in the world despite his second-round loss Wednesday to Roger Smith, the Assn. of Tennis Professionals said.
After Lendl’s defeat in the Volvo International tournament at Stratton Mountain, Vt., the ATP calculated that Stefan Edberg would move to the top of the rankings. However, after checking figures, it was determined that Lendl will remain No. 1 for the 151st consecutive week.
