A brush fire that burned more than 300 acres in San Marcos on Sunday was expected to be fully controlled by today, fire officials said.

Six air tankers, two helicopters, 25 fire engines, two bulldozers and more than 200 firefighters battled the blaze, which broke out about 1:45 p.m., according to Cheryl Howlett, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry.

The fire scorched the brushy terrain between Questhaven and Elfin Forest roads along San Marcos’ southern tier but did not threaten any residences, Howlett said. The fire was almost completely contained about six hours after it began, she said.

Crews and equipment from the forestry department, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego and Heartland fire departments helped battle the blaze. Cause of the blaze is under investigation, Howlett said.
