Two warehouse fires destroyed 30 of former baseball slugger Reggie Jackson’s collection of classic luxury cars Wednesday night, investigators said today.

Damage was estimated at $800,000 to the buildings and $3.2 million to the cars and other property. Jackson has 20 other valuable cars stored at three other locations.

The blazes apparently broke out about 10 p.m. in a furniture warehouse next to the building in which 30 of Jackson’s cars were stored. All the vehicles were destroyed.

The cause of the fires was not immediately determined. A passer-by said he heard explosions that sounded like fireworks and saw the buildings engulfed by flames.
