Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Investigators Seek Cause of 2 Early Morning Fires

Fire officials were investigating the causes of two blazes that broke out an hour apart early Monday morning. Arson was not suspected in either blaze, according to authorities.

Damage was estimated at $100,000 in a fire at a commercial complex at 1406 S. Ritchey St., said Fire Department spokeswoman Sharon Frank. The fire gutted three businesses, California Zoological Supplies, a manufacturer of animal foods; GBI Glass Brokers and S.W. Gill Painting,.

The blaze, which was reported about 12:20 a.m., was contained by firefighters after about 45 minutes.

The second blaze, which consumed a garage, was reported at 1:20 a.m. by a neighbor who first attempted to douse the fire with a garden hose, according to Frank. The detached garage, in the 500 block of South Orange Street, was destroyed, along with contents including a pickup truck, a trailer and some fencing. Damage in that fire was estimated at about $20,000.
