A 22-year-old woman was raped Monday morning by a group of young men in Balboa Park, San Diego police reported.

The woman told police she was standing near Balboa Drive and Laurel Street between 6:30 and 7:15 a.m. when she was grabbed by two men and forced at knifepoint into some nearby bushes, where the pair were joined by four accomplices. All six young men participated in the assault, but it was unknown how many of them raped the victim, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

After her assailants left, the victim flagged down a passing patrol car and reported the incident to Officer Ken Verdone, police said. Other officers were dispatched and they detained several men in the immediate area, Robinson said.

The victim positively identified three of the men as her attackers, Robinson said. The three, two of them 16-year-olds and all from Mexico, were booked into Juvenile Hall. All three face charges of rape and forced oral copulation.

Three other suspects--ages 18, 19 and 21--were still being sought Monday night.

The reported victim, a Santee resident, was taken to Physicians & Surgeons Hospital, where she was treated and released.
