2 Killed, 6 Wounded in Areawide Series of Gang-Related Shootings

Two people were killed and six wounded in separate gang-related shootings Friday night and Saturday, police said.

A gun battle between rival gangs in Inglewood left one man dead and two people wounded. The clash began about 10 p.m. Friday at 111th Street and Yukon Avenue, where a drive-by shooting left a 19-year-old woman wounded, police said.

Within minutes of that incident, two 17-year-old gang members were shot at 108th Street and LeMoli Avenue, Inglewood police said. Both were taken to Martin Luther King/Drew Medical Center, where one died Saturday morning. The other was in stable condition.

Not far away, a homeowner and a 17-year-old gang member were wounded Friday night in a gang drive-by shooting on Lohengrin Street east of Inglewood, sheriff’s deputies said. Both were hospitalized in stable condition.

A 19-year-old man was shot to death at 2:30 a.m. Saturday when a man shot into his car in Compton.

Manuel Martinez was wounded while driving on West Poplar Street with a friend when a shot was fired into his car. He died at King medical center, Compton police Lt. M. D. Bunton said.

Earlier, four men in the Firestone area were arrested on suspicion of shooting a man at 93rd Street and Bell Haven Avenue, sheriff’s deputies said.

Four known gang members seen fleeing the scene were arrested and the victim was hospitalized in stable condition.

An 18-year-old Burbank youth was injured early Saturday in what police said was a gang-related drive-by shooting on the 1300 block of north San Fernando Road. He was in satisfactory condition at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
