A motorist traveling west on Interstate 8 in El Cajon was killed early Monday when his car drifted off the road and tumbled down an embankment, the CHP reported.
The man, whose identity was not released pending notification of relatives, was dead at the scene.
The single-car accident occurred at 3:30 a.m. when the vehicle struck a tree, continued through a chain-link fence, flipped onto its top and landed in a drainage ditch, the California Highway Patrol said.
