It’s Lachey and Pick for Schroeder
The Raiders have agreed to send newly acquired tackle Jim Lachey and a draft choice to the Washington Redskins for quarterback Jay Schroeder, The Times learned Saturday night.
Schroeder was the Redskins’ starter until losing his job last season to Doug Williams. Unhappy at his demotion, he asked to be traded.
The Raiders will start Steve Beuerlein at quarterback today against San Diego. Beuerlein, a second-year player, spent his first season on the injured reserve list.
The deal will be contingent on Lachey passing his physical after Sunday’s game.
This apparently ends the long Raider search for a quarterback. Since last season, the team had lost Marc Wilson to free agency and had cut Jim Plunkett and Rusty Hilger, the three men who have quarterbacked the club through most of the decade.
