Cuba Rallies to Beat U.S. in Baseball, 10-9
Lourdes Gurriel hit his second homer of the game to tie the score in the ninth and then Alejo O’Reilly capped the four-run rally with a solo homer that gave Cuba a 10-9 victory over the United States at the World Baseball Championship Sunday night.
Both teams entered the game with 10-0 records and were seeking the top seeding position in the semifinals. The United States took a 9-6 lead into the final inning after a three-run homer by Ted Wood and solo shots by Dave Silvestri and Tom Goodwin.
Cuba will play fourth-seeded Japan in the semifinals Tuesday and the United States will play third-seeded Taiwan.
