Connors Gains Quarterfinals

NEW YORK —
Jimmy Connors advanced to the U.S. Open quarterfinals for the 15th time in 19 years with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jorge Lozano today.
Connors, the No. 6 seed, will meet the winner of tonight’s Andre Agassi-Michael Chang match in the quarterfinals, the record-tying 102nd Open match of Connors’ career. Vic Seixas set the record from 1940 to 1969, winning only in 1954. Connors, a five-time Open champion, has 88 victories here, already a men’s record.
