An unemployed Carmel Valley carpenter who allegedly abducted an 18-year-old woman and kept her chained in his home for six days while he repeatedly raped her has been arrested, Morgan Hill police said. The woman got away from her attacker by accepting his promise of money and a new car, officers said. Burton R. Bathke, 41, was taken into custody Friday when he went to a site where he was to have met the victim. Investigators said Bathke had given the woman his telephone number. She called police upon her release and a meeting was arranged between Bathke and the victim, police said. “During her six-day ordeal she gained his confidence,” Cole said. “He felt remorseful about what he had done and tried to strike a deal with her.”
