Quarterback Jimmy Williams came off the bench twice to complete third-down passes in an 80-yard touchdown drive that lifted Arkansas to a 30-26 victory over surprising Tulsa Saturday at Fayetteville, Ark.

The victory was not secured until Kerry Owens separated Tulsa quarterback T.J. Rubley from the ball and Arkansas’ Wayne Martin recovered on the Arkansas 19 with just over a minute remaining.

That was the first time the Razorbacks (2-0) got to Rubley, who was 26 of 34 for 380 yards.

Williams, a junior college transfer from Arizona, relieved quarterback Quinn Grovey and completed a 24-yard pass to Tim Horton on third-and-10 to get Arkansas’ winning drive off the ground.

Grovey gave way again when Arkansas faced third-and-5 at the Tulsa 26, and Williams hit Horton for 13 yards. James Rouse, who had 108 yards in 22 carries, scored the winning touchdown from 13 yards out with 7:08 left.

Tulsa (1-1) went ahead four minutes earlier on a 20-yard field goal by David Fuess.

Indiana 41, Rice 14--Anthony Thompson rushed for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead the Hoosiers’s rout of the Owls at Houston.

Thompson carried 23 times and scored on runs of 23, 3 and 32 yards, tying his school record for rushing touchdowns in one game, before sitting out the last 20 minutes.
