A naked man who deputies said was waving his arms and talking to himself died after he was jolted with a stun gun and physically subdued on a street corner in Paramount, an official said Sunday.

Charles Eugene Miles, 37, of Bellflower, died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, about one hour after he was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Kathryn Nielsen said. The Sheriff’s Department refused to disclose what type of controlled substance Miles had allegedly used.

Miles was booked at the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center and died a short time later. An autopsy was scheduled.
