Banke and Romero Fight Tonight for Tournament Title
Paul Banke and Carlos Romero will conclude the Forum’s super-bantamweight boxing tournament tonight when they meet in the championship bout. The winner will get $75,000 but will have earned a total of $100,000 in the seven-month tournament.
Romero, of Caracas, Venezuela, has a 22-4 record with 19 knockouts. He has knocked out his last two tournament foes, Harold Petty and Jorge Ramirez. Banke, 14-3 with 7 knockouts, has knocked out Alberto Mercado and won a decision over Robert Shannon in reaching the final.
