NEWPORT, Ore. —
The Coast Guard today rescued five people whose fishing boat sank in the Pacific Ocean, but three others were found dead and two more were reported missing. The survivors were found about 36 miles west of Depoe Bay and were flown to a hospital in Newport.
The 45-foot charter boat had been reported missing after it failed to return from a tuna fishing trip Thursday night. The Coast Guard said it had no information on how long the survivors were in the water or what happened to the boat.
