Swingman Pat Cummings, a nine-year National Basketball Assn. veteran who spent the last four seasons with the New York Knicks, signed a one-year, $550,000 contract with the Miami Heat.
Cummings, who is 6 feet 9 inches, will play power forward and center for the Heat, which will begin its initial season in the NBA this fall.
A third-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in 1978, Cummings, 32, spent three years in Milwaukee before he was traded to Dallas in 1982. After two seasons with the Mavericks, Cummings was signed as a free agent by the Knicks.
