Beach Volleyball : Top-Seeded Teams Win Easily
It doesn’t matter to Mike Dodd and Tim Hovland that they’ve won more prize money than the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals’ top-ranked team of Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos this year. They want to be No.1.
That was evident in the way they played Saturday in the $150,000 Miller Lite tournament at Hermosa Beach.
They didn’t face any seeded teams, but their intensity and quick disposal of opponents demonstrated how badly they want the title.
Dodd and Hovland, the tournament’s second-seeded and the AVP’s No.2-rated team, easily won their first two matches and scored a 15-5 quarterfinal victory over Al Janc and Sean Fallowfield in the last winner’s bracket match.
That puts them in today’s 9 a.m. semifinal match.
As expected, top-seeded Smith and Stoklos also cruised through their matches to the semifinals.
