Alain Prost of France, driving a turbocharged McLaren Honda, won the pole for today’s Portuguese Grand Prix, the 13th race of the 1988 Formula One season, at Estoril, Portugal.
Prost was timed in 1 minute 17.411 seconds around the 2.7-mile circuit. He will be joined on the front row by Brazilian teammate Ayrton Senna, who was timed in 1:17.869.
Between them, Senna and Prost have won all 12 poles and 11 of 12 races.
