High School Football : Harvard Edges Hoover Behind Runs by Holly

Share

Tailback Marty Holly rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown in 14 carries--all in the second half--to lead Harvard to a 14-13 victory over Hoover on Saturday. It was the first game played at Hoover High since 1947.

Holly’s 4-yard run in the third quarter gave Harvard a 14-7 lead. Hoover had a chance to tie the score after Erik Messal scored on a 60-yard run in the fourth quarter, but the snap on the extra-point attempt sailed over the head of kicker Brad Faunce.

Hoover had another opportunity minutes later, but Messal fumbled on the Harvard 1-yard line and linebacker Andy Lee recovered the ball in the end zone.

Harvard took a 7-0 first-quarter lead when Gene Kim threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Lee.

Harvard tailback Jeremy Schweitzer, who gained 147 yards last week, was limited to 36 yards in 17 carries and left the game with 8:50 remaining with an injured hip.
