Laundry Fire Damages Bel Age Hotel
A fire that started in the laundry room of the luxurious Bel Age Hotel on Sunday forced some guests to leave their rooms, but no injuries were reported, authorities said.
A towel that fell behind a dryer in the laundry room of the West Hollywood hotel overheated and caught fire, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Don Hudalla said.
The blaze caused about $30,000 in damage, he said.
Firefighters were called at 1:46 p.m. after smoke was seen coming out of outside air ducts leading from the basement laundry area, Firefighter Hubert Parker aid. The blaze was extinguished in about 30 minutes, he said.
A hotel operator said guests on the lower floors of the nine-story, 198-unit hotel were asked to come down to the lobby as a precaution.
