A 61-year-old grandmother is being held in the Las Colinas jail after stabbing her 10-month-old grandson, Oceanside police said.

Maria T. Roserio of the 4100 block of Lonnie Street is being held on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbing Enrique Roserio in the chest several times, Oceanside police spokesman Bob George said. She told police that the child was possessed by the devil, he said.

The baby’s parents had put him down for a nap shortly after 10 a.m. when they heard him screaming about 15 minutes later, George said.

The baby’s father walked into the room, saw his mother holding a 10-inch kitchen knife over the baby and noticed a stab wound in the child’s chest, police said.

The baby’s mother rushed him to Tri-City Medical Center with multiple stab wounds in the chest. The child was later transferred to Children’s Hospital in good condition, a Tri-City spokeswoman said.
