An Anaheim woman, identified as the mother of the mute girl who is believed to have been abandoned in a La Jolla department store, will be arraigned this afternoon in Superior Court on charges of child abuse, neglect and abandonment. Karen Amy May, 37, was arrested Saturday night in Torrance and remains in jail, with bail set at $20,000.

San Diego police spokesman Dave Cohen said Monday that detectives are setting up a lineup for employees of the May Co. in La Jolla Village Square to see if any of them could identify May as the woman last seen in the store with 11-year-old Tanya Tegerdine on Sept. 14. The detectives plan to go to Anaheim today to serve a search warrant on May’s last known address and then to Torrance to speak with relatives of the family, Cohen said.
