Local News in Brief : Head-On Simi Freeway Crash Kills Man, 53
A head-on crash on the Simi Valley Freeway on Tuesday killed a 53-year-old Sun Valley man, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The name of the victim was not released pending notification of his family. The accident occurred at 2:43 a.m. on the freeway east of De Soto Avenue in Chatsworth, officials said.
The CHP said the man was heading west on the freeway when his car went out of control, possibly because of a mechanical problem, crossed into the eastbound lanes, hit another car and burst into flames. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other car, whose name was unavailable, suffered facial injuries and was treated at Granada Hills Community Hospital, the CHP said.
