Poli Garcia’s goal with 1 minute left broke a 3-3 tie, and the Sockers went on to a 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Blast in the Major Indoor Soccer League exhibition opener for both teams Friday night in Cincinnati.
Brian Quinn score three times for San Diego, including an empty-net goal in the final minute. Quinn’s first two goals helped the Sockers to a 3-1 lead, but Baltimore came back to tie the game Billy Bronson’s goal with two minutes left.
Mike Brille scored twice to lead the University of San Diego to a 3-1 nonleague victory over visiting New Mexico. Chris Duke added a goal for USD (6-4), and Steve Boston scored for New Mexico (3-8).
