Sainthood for Serra

Re Father Junipero Serra sainthood (Letters, Sept. 11): How could you print such garbage in your paper? Whoever Jan Vandersloot is and whatever ax he has to grind is beyond me, but he's just parroting the unfounded claims of a few malcontents posing as Indians in the area of the Monterey Peninsula.

Father Serra was loved by the Indians when he was there. I lived in Carmel and saw their feeble lies told and heard people who knew what they were talking about prove it all to be lies.

Some people will believe anything if only it is anti-Catholic. Do you belong to that group?
