Denver Broncos wide receiver Rick Massie has been put on injured reserve after his claustrophobia prevented him from taking a plane or a train to today’s game against the 49ers in San Francisco.
“We play road games and if you can’t travel to them, that’s a problem,” Bronco spokesman Jim Saccomano said. “Rick has a physical condition we are aware of. We hope he gets well soon. Right now that has to be our primary focus.”
Massie had just boarded a train Friday bound for San Francisco when he “freaked out” about 2 miles out of Denver’s Union Station and had to get off the train, a Bronco spokesman said.
Last Saturday, Massie suffered a claustrophobic seizure that forced him to get off the team’s chartered plane and take a chauffeured limousine to San Diego, where he arrived about 4 hours before the Broncos’ game against the Chargers. The round trip via limo cost the Broncos $2,700.
