Andy Griffith and Don Knotts, whose teaming on “The Andy Griffith Show” helped make that series a TV classic, are pairing up again. Knotts will have a recurring role on “Matlock” this season, playing the detective’s next-door neighbor.

In an unusual joint effort, both KCET Channel 28 and KMEX Channel 34 will broadcast a documentary about AIDS on Oct. 30. The program, “SIDA Is AIDS,” will air in English on KCET and in Spanish on KMEX. It will address the issue of AIDS in the Hispanic community. Teresa Rodriguez will narrate both versions.

Ricky Schroder and George Dzundza star in “Terror on Highway 91,” a TV movie that CBS will televise later this season. Schroder plays an idealistic young man who joins a small-town police force, only to learn that the sheriff (Dzundza) is corrupt.

Rue McClanahan of “The Golden Girls” will host an edition of NBC’s new “The Magical World of Disney.” And she won’t be the only NBC personality featured. The program, scheduled for broadcast Nov. 6, will be what the network describes as a “musical-comedy circus” featuring Tina Yothers of “Family Ties,” Kim Fields of “The Facts of Life,” Christopher Daniel Barnes of “Day by Day,” Countess Vaughn of “227,” Danny Ponce of “The Hogan Family” and Benji Gregory of “ALF.”

Briefly noted: Rich Little will be a guest star on the CBS soap opera “The Young and the Restless” Nov. 2-4. . . . Jack Warden is starring in one of ABC’s “Police Story” remakes, this one called “The Watch Commander.”
