The Heiress (Channel 5 Wednesday at 1:30 a.m.): William Wyler’s impeccable film of Henry James’ “Washington Square” with superb performances by Olivia de Havilland as the plain heiress, Montgomery Clift as her handsome suitor and Ralph Richardson as her spirit-crushing father. (2:30)

The Offence (Channel 7 Saturday at 11:30 p.m.): This is a splendid yet rarely seen 1972 film starring Sean Connery and directed by Sidney Lumet from a John Hopkins play in which Connery gives a performance of Shakespearean stature as a seasoned, hard-nosed British police sergeant attempting to nail a man for rape despite a total lack of evidence.
