Ground-breaking ceremonies are scheduled today at Saddleback College for the $6.8-million Student Services Center. State Sen. William Campbell (R-Hacienda Heights) will be the keynote speaker.

The two-story building will have 62,000 square feet of space and will be the focal site for student activities on the community college campus at 28000 Marguerite Parkway. The building is scheduled to be completed in December, 1989.

The ground floor of the Student Services Center will house the offices of admissions and records, counseling services, financial assistance, the student health center and the campus bookstore. The upper floor will have a cafeteria, a student lounge, a multipurpose area and the offices for student government, the student newspaper and the student radio station.

Funding of the building was made possible by both state money and the district’s leasing out of surplus campus property, district officials said.

“This is a festive occasion to celebrate our good fortune in obtaining this important facility, which will provide the first permanent home for the college’s support services,” college President Constance Carroll said.
